Journal of Islamic Sciences

Journal of Islamic Sciences started in 2003 as Islam & Science. In 2013, its name was changed to Islamic sciences. Over the course of its history, over 60 scholars have contributed some of the most important articles in several areas of discourse, including Islam and science, Qur’anic studies, Islamic intellectual history, and other areas.

When we started out…

In 2003, there was not scholarly journal on Islam and Science. CIS started the journal, Islam & Science. Ten years later, we realized that since the discourse on Islam and science is actually a subset of a broader discourse on Islam and the contemporary world, and that this cannot be meaningfully carried out with a broader framework, we renamed the journal as Journal of Islamic Sciences. “Islamic Sciences” in the title refer to both the transmitted and the acquired sciences. Thus, the focus of the journal is on both the intellectual and the spiritual traditions of Islam.

Where we want to go…

Hence, the need for a multi-level approach, using all available forums and methods: written text, podcasts, dialogues, conversations, conferences and seminars, specially designed courses for various segments of the society (teachers, researchers, writers, general public…)
